The Science of Law of Attraction Part 2
Are there such things as thought fields like magnetic fields but with thought?
Please read part one first. I was last talking about science is not stable and we also have multiple people interpreting data in different and sometimes completely contradictory ways.
I would guess that every single one of us has some sort of motivated reasoning in one way or another. But some of us have a love of truth that can pierce through that blockade like the sun shining its light through a hole in a cloudy sky.
I want to know what is true. I mentioned some Christian beliefs I rejected in the previous installment. I was afraid to study those out, but my love of truth outweighed those fears. I changed my mind when I got new data.
My Belief System
I call the law of attraction a belief of mine. In other words, I could be wrong and I won’t push my belief onto others as if it’s a fact. But I have seen enough personal evidence and studied enough to see that my belief in it is beneficial, even if I’m wrong. It’s not harming me or anyone else.
I don’t know that we can know the truth about it all even with some very good scientific studies which I would love to see. Everyone might have contradictory interpretations of that data anyway.
As I mentioned I am willing to question my belief even when I’m afraid I might be wrong and I am willing to change my mind with new data even when I’ll be demonized by the social group I am in at the moment.
I did not all of a sudden believe in the law of attraction because I’m stupid, naïve, or just want to “feel good.” If I had any of that motivation, I wouldn’t have questioned the mainstream narratives because that’s not a pleasant experience and I’ve been through the fire more than once.
I am very interested in the following fields of study, but I am not saying I know what follows is absolute truth. I would like more studies. I would like people to research these things and talk about them. Despite my catchy title, this is not “the Science.” They’re just some scientific studies or hypotheses that might go along with and help to explain the law of attraction. Here they are simply jumping off points if you would like to study further.
Consciousness / Attention Matters
It’s been said that the double-slit experiment proves that our attention to something causes it to behave differently. Once again there are different interpretations of that. Just getting into observation mode can interrupt what would have happened otherwise. Our attention to something may cause changes in the physical world. I would say the placebo effect may be part of that. Our attention to a physical issue and a belief in taking some medication can improve our physical body.
Meditation is seen to improve our body, so that could be another change in consciousness or attention also that would be creating physical changes. I think there are plenty of studies to show that our thoughts matter concerning how our body behaves. Look into Dr. Joe Dispenza and his work for more information on this.
Thought-Fields
A theory of thought fields has been proposed by Edward Russell. The following is from a longer quote on this page. L-field is life-field, and if you want more information on that you can find the quote and read above it.
Edward Russell and Fields of Thought
One of the most important discoveries in the nearly four decades of research was made by Dr. Leonard Ravitz when he hypnotized a patient and recorded the accompanying changes in his L-field. Russell relates the incident:
Quote: To the astonishment of those present, a continuously recording voltmeter showed changes in the voltage gradient in the L-field of a patient as he sank deeper and deeper into hypnosis. For the first time in history it was possible to measure the depth of hypnosis objectively with a voltmeter. (43: 32)
Russell points out the special significance of this experiment. It appeared to him to demonstrate that the L-field of the body could be affected by the mind. This led to further developments that laid a foundation for the explanation of psychosomatic illness. The L-field, it turned out, acted as the intermediary between the mind and the body. It was clearly possible for a disturbance of the mind to upset the L-field, and thus initiate pathological conditions that would later affect the body. In this way mental stress led to the development of ulcers and innumerable other physical ills.
This experiment led Russell to make an important contribution of his own. He proposed a theory of thought fields, which he called T-fields. He suggested, in effect, that thought itself had field properties, and he pointed to the results of recent research in telepathy in Russia for support. We shall return to the Russian experiments later. Here we may simply note that the Russian experiments have to all intents and purposes established telepathy as a scientific fact. At the same time they have failed utterly to discover an explanation in terms of electromagnetic waves or radiations of any kind. Russell points out that this leaves field theory as the only way out. We must assume that thought itself has field properties. It is like the force of gravity that operates at any distance, through anything, and is not subject to time. It operates the way an electromagnetic field does.
Russell reaches the further conclusion that thought fields, or "T-fields," since they can disturb and dominate the L-fields, are primary. This amounts to saying that thought is the primary force in the universe. Here it is necessary to reiterate our observation regarding field theory: that it does not pretend to explain how forces operate. It restricts itself to observing their effects. Just as we know nothing of the nature of gravitation or of electromagnetism, so we must confess entire ignorance of the nature of thought-force. But we can assert that it exists and that it has field properties.
Russell points out that a field is not dependent upon the material it organizes. A magnet may attract iron filings and form them into a pattern. If the filings are then thrown out and new filings substituted, the magnet organized them into the same pattern. The L-field of the body, in the same way, might survive the body and organize other bodies. The T-field may exist indefinitely, as long as the force that created them exists. And what force can this be but the ultimate creative force?
Russell considers the L-fields and the T-fields to be entirely separate, even though the T-field can, as shown in the hypnosis experiment, dominate the L-field. Russell defines the differences between them as follows:
Quote: Of the two kinds of fields, the electromagnetic L-fields are common to the whole human race, because all human bodies are organized in the same general pat-tern. But the thought fields, which are composed of individual memories and experiences, are peculiar to each individual and exclusively his own. (43: 85)
Thus, according to Russell, the T-field is the entity, the person, the soul or spirit of the individual. It is independent of any particular body, immortal, brought into existence by the thought field of the universe, which we may call God if we wish.
After stating that one of the properties of the T-fields is that they extend indefinitely through space, like other fields, Russell goes on to say,
Quote: A far more remarkable . . . property of T-fields is that they attach themselves to—or if you prefer localize themselves in—any kind of matter of any shape or size.
Thoughts can attach themselves to objects, from which sensitive people can pick them up. This would explain the remarkable "psychometric" gift of certain psychics, notably that of the famous Dutchman Peter Hurkos.
Are thoughts magnetic in a way? Why do people attract their opposites when stuck in the drama triangle? I’d really like some study into that.
The Maharishi Effect
When individuals or groups meditate they seem to “infect” the people around them with peace, regardless if the others are aware or not. If this is true you can heal your city, by yourself, simply by meditating. The healing grows when you get more people doing it. When people complain online about how they don’t have as many local friends who get this stuff and they’re upset all their “awake” (but not woke) friends are all over the world, I say, there’s a reason for that. There are meditators sprinkled all throughout the world who help keep a balance.
From What is the Maharishi Effect? “The Maharishi Effect says: If 1% of the population regularly practices Transcendental Meditation (TM, special kind of meditation), the overall mood improves for the better. As a result, crime decreases, the quality of life increases and peace spreads.
Meditators form an energy field that can mask the negativity of their surroundings. And since countless studies have also reduced random factors (such as suicides, accidents and emergency calls), the supernatural influence of group meditations has been proven.
Countless studies have seemingly proven the Maharishi Effect!
One level higher there is the Super Maharishi Effect. This says: If specially trained TM-Sidhas meditate together at one place, then √1% of the population is enough for the so-called Super Maharishi Effect. This is because their power is increased during group meditations.
For Switzerland, this would mean that 265 TM-Sidhas would already be enough to bring about a strong positive trend. For the whole world “only” 9’000 trained TM-Sidhas would be needed! 9’000 TM-Sidhas for world peace.”
That website link is not working any longer. But I found some more information here.
I believe we’re all quantumly entangled with one another in some way. Wouldn’t we have to be if we all came from the same place (like the big bang or creation theories suggest)?
The Drama Triangle
This isn’t exactly science, but I would guess it’s simply a logical way of seeing relationships. Understanding how people play drama triangle games with one another can help in seeing why they stay in the positions they’re in. If someone has a victim mentality, they cannot see ways in which they might not be a victim because they don’t want to.
The same goes for people who like to be looked at as “Savior.” They don’t want their perceived “victims” to be truly saved because if they were, then they would no longer get the emotional benefit of playing savior. They will always look for more victims, even to the point of inventing people who need saving or “saving” people who didn’t ask for it and don’t want that intervention.
What you spend your time focusing on gets larger because you are training your brain to look for reasons why what you believe is true to reassure yourself. The people who play drama triangle games are getting some sort of emotional benefit or boost. It’s short-lived because it’s not satisfying when it doesn’t come from within their own minds. But they are getting a boost, and then they will continually be on the lookout for more of the same.
Conclusions For Now
I’m not concluding all those things are absolutely true. But I would like more studies on them. Dr. Joe Dispenza is doing studies on how meditation is healing people. I’m interested in that. I want scientific studies into how our attention to things changes the world around us, how we may attract thoughts with momentum or habits of thoughts, and how changing those thoughts can help us.
I think there could be and should be more studies into these subjects. I’m thankful for Dr. Joe Dispenza and the people he works with for studying meditation’s effect on the body. HeartMath has a tool that tracks Heart Rate Variability while meditating. They have some research on how it affects the brain which is interesting.
Mostly I wrote this because I don’t believe that a belief in the law of attraction contradicts a belief in scientific studies. I simply do not agree with the scientists who for their own motivated reasoning would simply mock the belief without looking into it. I think we could spend more time and research into it. I believe it would be beneficial. I’m surprised more people are not interested. But I suppose that’s because it’s mocked and people don’t want to feel dumb.
Maybe it’s not being studied or considered because then we would have to take responsibility for our own thoughts and actions. I think that people have a really big problem with that. Perhaps it is that they understand the consequences of believing in the law of attraction and would really like other people to be scapegoats for all their problems. If we accepted the law of attraction as a law of nature (which is what I believe it is), then we would have to stop blaming other people for the problems in our lives.
My Thoughts
In the future, I may write more on my theory as to how the science might work with the law of attraction, in which case I can title it part 3. But it would simply be a theory or belief. Because I love the truth, I find it difficult to just say my beliefs are the way things are. I share techniques, tips, and tricks that work for me that are based on these beliefs and studies.
More Attraction Studies?
Do you have any more studies you know of that might be of interest to people who believe in the law of attraction? Leave a comment below. I and others would gladly look into those.
