I once made a vision “board” (sheet of paper) with pictures of things and lyrics from “Back in the High Life” on it. I was told by someone that it’s supposed to be visual (pictures), not lyrics. I said, that they bring up a feeling for me. My mother liked Steve Winwood (the creator of the song), so I heard his stuff and I liked his work too. She had his vinyl albums, now I do.
We'll be back in the high life again
All the doors I closed one time
Will open up again
I actually spent more time making the vision board picture with Photoshop than I kept the paper hanging up. But eventually I manifested something about that song. Because of my experience with it, I think the intentions going into the creation (the picking and choosing of what you want) matter, regardless if you ever keep it up as an actual vision board. But, I will not suggest that it was the fastest and easiest way to manifest. It took years.
One day I was listening to my Alexa playing music from Pandora based on my likes. I had liked some of Steve Winwood's songs, and eventually Pandora played a live version of a song of his that I had never heard before. I enjoyed it, and I thought to look up live versions of his music. This is Back in the High Life:
I may have heard his song “Higher Love” live first. Either way, I bought a 2 CD set of his Greatest Hits live performances.
While listening to it, I appreciated that I manifested hearing songs I loved as a child performed in a new way. Although I enjoyed his work, I hadn’t considered myself a “fan” (fanatic). I don’t follow people like that (getting the new stuff as soon as it comes out, etc) regardless of how much I like their music.
I looked up “Higher Love” on YouTube and found out that there were other versions, featuring Whitney Houston, whose music I also really enjoy. I have a greatest hits album of hers as well. I have no idea how I missed this song in the 90s. Then there was this more recent mix:
And, all of a sudden I had 4 different versions of a song I loved to fit my various moods. I cannot share how uplifting it felt to hear Whitney sing this song. It doesn’t take the place of the Winwood version, but it is better for exercising, going walking in the park, or cleaning up the house because it is more energized.
Bring Me a Higher Love
When I heard the song as a child, it seemed to be about relationships. When I hear the song now, I think of it as a prayer to God, asking for an updated “love” which can refer to a person, but, in this case, refers to a song. I loved the original song, now I have a higher version of the song that I love.
It took me years to realize why I liked this song, Some Nights, by F.UN, it wasn’t the lyrics. I don’t care for the auto-tuning either. It’s because it’s an updated (better performance) of Cecilia from Simon & Garfunkel. Here’s a mashup to see how similar they are. Now if someone could do Cecilia (lyrics) with the drums and music mastery (minus the auto-tuning) that would be a kick-ass song. For now, I have the mashup.
